so before we went out to film we thought it would be a good idea to have a look at different people tips and tricks when it comes to making a music video, as we haven't done anything like this before we thought we could bring together different ideas.

narrative or performance?

so we decided that we did not want to incorporate too much lypsynce performance in our music video, but we had to use some to show skill and technique, how ever we like the narrative idea more as we would be able to use more imagination to either tell a story or have some moment and change of scene in it. we decided we still want to base our idea off of beyonces video partition.

performance

performance videos are also another common video theme, this is where we have a character singing mainly lip syncing, or a band performing etc... we will feature this in our video but it will not be the main source of our shots. some examples are:

Narrative

Narrative videos involve more of a story, this videos can be more interesting however sometimes can takeaway the viewers attention from the song we haven't yet decided whether we will be using this type or not. 

here are some examples of some songs with a narrative video.

new song

So as a group we really do like the jazz genre so even though we decided to change our song we still chose a jazz song.

the song we liked was 'i put a spell on you' by Nina Simone, however the song we found was not upbeat enough and didn't have a strong enough beat so it would have made it harder to edit our video. we looked up different cover versions of it and found an Annie Lennox version which was actually featured in the fifty shades of grey film. 

idea change

As a group our initial idea was to use the nina simone version to feeling good, how ever after thinking harder about it we decided that there are too many cover versions to the song for example micheal bubble did a cover and so did muse, both of which had different videos so we decided that we needed to pick a less cliche song.

video idea

we researched lots of different videos with different genre. at first we thought we could have used a male character in a suit on a stage dancing under a spotlight, edited to lack and white.
After our research we decided we really liked the beyonce video to the song partition.

song choice

so our final choice of song was nina simone feeling g good, we chose this song because it had a nice pass and a strong beat.
 our initial ideas for this song were to use a burlesque type dancer, with a dark background. our theme would have been 1920's. as we felt that the song really went well with this theme of video.

genre

As seen in the post before we have a clear genre we liked as a group, it being jazz and soul. As a group we chose this genre as this period of time music videos were not as popular so the most they would do is film their performance. Also it is not a popular genre picked in a level so we thought we could be quite creative with this and pick make something different to all previous year.
